Artist Statement

Istanbul-based jewelry and accessory designer Hülya Özer finds inspiration in her own roots. Embracing the cultural richness and creativity of the many ancient civilizations that once inhabited the land, the pure forms of the early Ottoman period that transcend time, the Selçuk view of design as images of the universe, the mystic essence of art in Anatolia, the primitive motifs of Central Asian nomadic culture, the creativity of the ancient civilizations of the Aegean and the self-indulge and the luxury of the Middle East. Hülya represented Turkey in the Santa Fe International Folk Art Festival for the past two years. Her designs are exhibited across the world, from the World Bank in Washington, DC to Embassies in South Asia.

Hülya combines precious needle-works and embroideries made by Anatolian women, recycles textiles from kaftans, uses turquoise, amber, jade, coral, glass and other stunning gemstones, antique beads, amulets, pendants, and other artifacts from various ages, cultures, and religions of the Ottoman Empire that she has collected over the past three decades. Her pieces transcend jewelry design and venture into the realm of art. Her one-of-a-kind creations are bound to make you the center of gravity in any place.
