Artist Statement
I learned to sew as a child, but didn't discover the world of art quilts until 1986. Fiber art quickly became my passion. My work is inspired by the geometry of the world around me, both natural and man-made.
I start each quilt by selecting a palette of colors and fabrics and proceed interactively, adding or removing fabrics and shapes until I've achieved a pleasing composition. I use my own hand-dyed and painted fabrics, sometimes in combination with hand-dyes by other artists, ethnic fabrics, and batiks. I machine quilt my work to reinforce the composition and to add a further layer of interest. My quilts often hint of architecture and of forms floating in space and convey a sense of balance and serenity.
I have been a member of the Potomac Fiber Arts Gallery since 2002. My work has appeared in juried shows and many of my quilts are in private collections.
